Yesterday we went to the mountains of West Warwick so the kids could ski.
Bet you didn't know there WERE mountains in West Warwick, but I can assure you that there are, or were, as of yesterday, before the rain came. they may not be the kind of mountains some of their cousins were skiing on out in the great big state of Washington, but my brave kids still tore up the eastern slopes in respectable fashion.
Here, I'll show you:
As you can see, conditions were rather rough here - no automated lifts to be found...my children had to CLIMB to the top of the mountain, fighting off wild dogs as they went!
Julia wanted to go first. As the youngest, she is often the last to do things, so this time around she made sure she got the first run. Alex didn't mind. He was a bit suspicious of this man-made (cousin-made) mountain.
With a little assist from Daddy, she stepped into her bindings and was ready to go.
By the way, it was pretty warm yesterday, which is why there are no gloves or hats on any of us. We're pretty tough out here when it's in the 40's.
She's fearless, this little girl.
Ah well, that's part of the fun.
Alex's turn!
A bit of coaching from Daddy...
And...he's off!
And on and on it went. The kids had a blast. And it's good that we did this, because as of today, the snow is quickly disappearing - it's pouring out, and the temps are in the low 50's.
But yesterday? Yesterday was perfect.
Cousin Lisa stood in as the tow rope...
And Bill and Cousin Joe were the lifts...literally.
And the pugs, Herky and Lola, played in the snow.
Here are some more pictures from our local ski trip...we were particularly impressed with Julia's ability to regain her balance after about the third run.
and you ski'd as well, yes?????

Not on that hill! And I dont own skiis. Yet. Nor could I fit in either kids ski boots, so I couldnt really borrow theirs. But just you wait til February. I will be on skiis. And it will probably be very entertaining.

The kids are so precious... My son was just a year or two older than Alex when he learned to ski. Brace yourself for the daredevil years, not with just Alex either. I have a feeling Julia will be the one Bill's going to have to race after on the black diamonds.
