Two years ago I went along as a chaperone with Alex's kindergarten class on their field trip to Mystic Aquarium, and yesterday I went with Julia's class.
Actually, it's two kindergarten classes on the one field trip - both the morning and afternoon classes go all together in one bus. When I went with Alex, there were 63 of us on the bus and the weather was unseasonably warm. Julia's class size is pretty small, so even with the other kindergarten class along, too, there was plenty of space on the bus, and the weather was perfect - sunny and cool, but not so cool that we froze. And it wasn't raining.
Anyway, either I didn't bring a camera along when I went with Alex, or I just didn't include the pictures in that post, but this year I brought my camera, and I figured I'd put up a few (or more than a few) pictures....
First up we went into the stingray petting tank. The stingers have been removed, the the rays swim around in this big tank, and you can reach in and pet them if they let you. A couple of them were as friendly as puppies, poking their heads up out of the water to meet our outstretched hands. Very cool.
Next, the sea lion show. This year there were four of them.
No messing with the color - this is how these two jellyfish looked in their tank.
Julia and a friend. They were looking through the glass at the same tank used in the sea lion show, only from below.
Sharks and rays....
Julia and a seahorse.
I don't remember what kind of fish these were, but aren't they pretty?
The penguin in the middle is a young'un.
One old seal and three younger sea lions.
And my favorite spot - the Beluga whale habitat. I could watch them for hours.
Julia's been going around singing "Baby Beluga" for days.
the fish are called Cichlids.
