This morning I was startled by a flash of yellow outside the front window. The flash swooped away and back, and came to rest on a stalk of pink coral bells along the front walk.
A male goldfinch.
I haven't seen them around our house in ages, though Bill saw one for the briefest of moments yesterday.
A few seconds later, the female, less showy but no less pretty in her olive attire, arrived.
She swooped in, joined her mate at the flowers, but it was just for a quick hello, don't forget to pick up bread and pickles on the way home, dear, and then she was gone.
Mr. Goldfinch saw her off and then returned to perch on another stalk of coral bells.
And then he, too, in another flash of yellow, zipped away.
I can't believe your Coral Bells are blooming, and mine are just now waking up from their winter sleep. I'm jealous.
