I’m not always great at organizing my time. If I’m working on a post, for instance, I feel like I should be dusting a bookcase or vacuuming in the basement. And when I’m cleaning out the pantry, I feel a definite pull from unfinished Etsy projects.
So I’ve been working on that. On establishing times when I do house and family-oriented stuff, and times when I do blog or Etsy stuff. As a result, I find myself doing things at odd (for me) hours of the day.
Lately, I’ve been baking early in the morning, before anyone else is up, or when Bill is just heading to the shower.
And it’s kind of nice, I have to say. I made a few batches of cookie dough and froze them in logs, and in the morning I can slice up one of the logs, bake the cookies, and pack them in lunch bags before people leave the house.
This week I started making muffins. I’m using a good basic recipe – makes one dozen muffins - and I’m having fun each day adding different things to it.
One day was apricots and raisins…this morning it was diced apple with a sort of apple and oat and sugar and cinnamon topping. Tomorrow? I’m thinking cranberries and orange zest. Or banana and peanutbutter.
The kids have been delighted to have warm, yummy, healthy (Alex is rather health-conscious) muffins for breakfast. Julia didn’t really like the apricot-raisin version, but she was happy to use it as a prop.
Speaking of odd times to do things (at least for me), I also made a mixed chile pepper jelly last night.
But that’s a story for another post.
Julia is such a cutie! I would have passed on the apricot and raisin muffins too. But I'd love to try the banana-peanut butter! :)
