Yesterday was a Staff Development day where my kids go to school, so they were home with me. Alex had a bunch of homework to make up because he was out with strep most of last week, so after he did all of that it was time to make cookies.
Actually, I was sort of pushing for making granola bars, but they weren’t having that.
So cookies it was. Chocolate chip. Straight up chocolate chip for Julia, and nuts and coconut added to Alex’s.
It’s nice right now. At this age. The kids’ ages, not mine. Well, I guess mine is okay, too, because I don’t feel any one age consistently anyway.
But anyway. The kids are old enough to do a lot of the measuring and mixing without much help from me.
All I have to do is supervise, mostly.
And take pictures.
Far too many of them, probably.
So many that Alex felt the need to thrash and spin around in an effort to avoid my camera.
Whirling dervish boy.
Not really sure what this is. Sort of a Steve Martin Wild and Crazy Guy meets Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. And I did warn him that these pictures would probably end up on my website.
So he went back to the cookie making.
This one cracks me up. I’m taking a picture of Alex, but there’s Julia, smiling away because she sees the camera and it’s a photo op.
Well, she does have a cute smile. I’ll give her that.
Once the basic batter was made, I divided it into two bowls and we added the nuts to one portion.
Then it was time to make the cookies.
I started them out using spoons to scoop out and shape the dough. But Julia preferred to use her hands instead.
I took care of the baking, and because I’d become so lazy (what with the kids doing most of the work), I managed to let the last two pans of cookies burn.
Those went out the window this morning. I’m figuring the seagulls won’t be picky.
The rest of the cookies turned out just fine.
These are all that’s left this morning.
Well, minus one.
All this typing made me hungry.
so did you nick the one with the nuts or the plain one?

I just finished making chocolate chip cookies... no nuts here, although I love them with walnuts, the guys don't like additions. Jeff's plane should be landing right about now from Rio de Janeiro. He'll like that I made cookies to welcome him back home after two weeks at Carnival.
