While Mommy slacked off inside pretending to make beef stock and other nourishing foods, plus do laundry and dishes – OR SO SHE SAID – Julia and Alex were pressed into service as Firewood Transportation Specialists.
Daddy took down the first layer of stacked firewood in order to…well…stack it better than the inexperienced but hardworking children had done on their first try recently.
Alex and Julia loaded the wood into a wheelbarrow and Alex brought it around to the side of the garage and dumped it on the lawn for Daddy.
Eventually, Mommy was dragged, kicking and screaming (not really) from her kitchen to help with the last of the stacking.
In no time, ALL of the wood was stacked, and all that was left were pieces of bark, damp dirt, and lots of spiders, slugs, and bugs threatening to report us all for eviction without proper prior notification.
And, of course, Mommy forced Julia and Alex to stand in front of the finished wood pile, just to show how tall the wood is compared to her children.
By the way, Alex is ONLY TEN INCHES SHORTER THAN MOMMY NOW.
Mommy is a bit freaked out by this.
But anyway, the kids worked very hard, stopping only (mostly only) to point out really cool bugs or huge slugs or spider egg sacs or enormous earth worms or interesting fungi.
All in all, a very good day at Camp Children Work For Free.
I've gotta get me some of those.
