Sometimes I just feel like I don’t have anything GREAT to write about so I just skip posting. I think I shouldn’t just sit here and ramble on and on about nothing, because it’s not good reading for anyone.
But sometimes it’s all I’ve got – the rambling on and on. It’s like talking to my sister – we just ramble on and on. Sometimes we have a purpose to our conversation, but mostly it’s just…like sitting at the kitchen table and chatting over coffee.
Well, I’ve got my morning coffee. Do you need yours topped off?
My kids have been loving the snow. They’ve got a mountain built up against the side of the deck in the back yard and have been flying down it via tube. Tubing is much easier than skiing. While I was at work yesterday (Bill told me) Alex had brought the tube to the top of the mountain, climbed onto the deck rail and was about to ride down, but the rope on the tube looped around a chair leg on the deck (the chair was on its side) and so while Alex went flying down the hill, face forward, the tube stayed. Wish I’d seen it. I would have laughed and laughed and laughed….

Julia got hit in the face with a shovel the other day. She doesn’t always pay attention to her surroundings, particularly when other kids are wielding things like baseball bats…or shovels. She’s got a little scab at the center of a bruise right above her eye. I sometimes feel like if she didn’t have some sort of cut or bruise, she wouldn’t look right.
Anyway, when she came inside after the shovel incident, she was crying a bit and basically in need of sympathy and comfort. But really, she was fine. But to listen to my husband, you’d think her eyeball was dangling from the socket or something. Seriously, what is it with men and injuries? I don’t want my daughter (or son, for that matter, but he’s a male, so some of it is beyond my control) to freak out at every drop of blood or every bruise. So I keep my face calm and my voice calm and I clean up the blood and pull out the splinters and wash out the scrapes and patch things up and send them back into the world.
My husband, meanwhile, does all he can to sabotage my efforts. He hovers, staring in horror at whatever blood is in evidence, repeating things like “Oh, Julia, that looks like it hurts SO MUCH!” And I speak, in my calm, relaxed, matter-of-fact voice, saying “oh, it’s nothing, just a little cut” and urge him to go get her an ice pack or something, IN ANOTHER ROOM AND BE QUIET.
I don’t get it.
But back to Julia…the tiny little cut was not bleeding, and there was maybe a smidge of swelling but nothing huge. She didn’t want to ice it (probably too cold already) and I wasn’t worried about the force of the blow because it was from another little kid’s plastic shovel. So I asked her if she wanted to go back outside, and she wasn’t sure, couldn’t seem to decide if she wanted more sympathy or wanted to get back out and play in the snow.
So I suggested we flip a coin. Heads, she’d go back outside, and tails, she’d stay in. I carried the quarter into the living room and told her I wasn’t going to catch it, I was just going to let it land on the floor and hopefully it wouldn’t disappear under the couch.
So I flipped the quarter, and Julia and I watched it fly up and drop to the floor, where it spun around for a while before landing flat.
“It’s heads!” Julia announced – while it was still spinning – and turned to go.
“No, wait,” I said. “It’s tails.” I pointed to the coin. Julia looked. It was. She slouched and groaned in disappointment. She thought I’d make her stay indoors.
I smiled and said “See? You already knew what you wanted to do – you want to go back outside. So go.” And off she went.

My husband has become quite the pasta maker. Yesterday he made another batch of squash ravioli and once the filling was used up, he made fettuccini with the rest of the dough. He has time on the weekends, he says, while I’m working, so why not? Best part is, squash ravioli is something ALL of us like. So he’s filling the freezer with it.

My kids don’t have school today, due to the aftereffects of Friday’s blizzard, but Bill has to work. It’s my one day off this week, so I’m home with Alex and Julia and wondering what we’ll do today. It’s supposed to rain, so I don’t think there’ll be lots of fun in the snow.
I know what I want to do – I want to work on sewing projects. So we’ll see how it all turns out.

I am always late to parties like this, but I have become a bit of a Pinterest addict. I blame my iphone. If I didn’t have that, I wouldn’t be able to scroll through all the “pins” as often as I do, clicking on far more “like” buttons than I need to, but really, there is so much coolness out there! It’s bad – I have a ton of new things I want to try – food, furniture reupholstering, sewing, knitting and crocheting projects (and I don’t even crochet!), plus all sorts of other things. I also know I need to get familiar with Mod Podge. NEED to. Why? It looks cool.
And yes, all these years after high school, I’m still in pursuit of coolness. Hahahahahaha.

I guess that’s about it for now. My coffee needs to be warmed up and I want to get going on my assorted projects before the day races away from me.
Good chatting with you!
If you like pinterest, then you must have a look at storify my latest find.. I love it for keeping twitter conversations together so I can look at them later without favouriting everything. Look, here is a pasta thing I did with an Italian twitter friend the other day...

I personally love your rammbling posts~ It's like a sneak preview of what's going on in the Maker household!
Although, one wonders what kid's are doing heaving shovels around anyway...? Plastic or not. I've only ever thrown a shovel when I couldn't dig deeper into soil because of rocks. Thrown out of frustration. At the hole. It didn't help... hehe.

Good chat, reminds me of my sister and coffee. Thank you.

I should have explained that part - our kids and a couple of their friends were building/grooming a new mountain in the back yard. Not just swinging or throwing shovels! :)

I haven't posted to my blog in about 3 weeks for the same reason... nothing going on here. This was a good post, a good ramble makes us all feel normal now and then. Pinterest? You're talking to someone with 34 boards, over 3400 pins. This is why I don't do drugs, I'd go straight to the sun.

I joined Pinterest a year ago and have over 36,000 pins... it is a drug... And I enjoy reading whatever you write...
